Mellany C. Kitchens, CKD
President / Co-owner
Design Philosophy:
“Everyone is a unique creation. For that reason, I don’t design until I get to know the client and the family. Being familiar with their needs and wants is tantamount to remodeling a kitchen which will truly offer comfort and functionality.”
It’s no wonder that Mellany’s design work is highly regarded and has been published. Her design philosophy reflects why so many have sought her kitchen and bathroom remodeling skills for almost 20 years. She takes the business seriously and is a member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) and a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD). A CKD is professionally qualified by education and experience to research, design, plan and supervise the installation of residential kitchens. Rigorous testing must be passed to attain a CKD and yearly training must be met to retain this status.
Mellany is quite gifted in the musical realm. She was a Choral Music and Piano teacher in Yazoo City,
Mississippi for a couple of years. Today, she still loves to play the piano, in addition to hitting the tennis courts when free time can be found.

Can you imagine 30 years worth of kitchen design, bathroom design and remodeling right at your fingertips? That’s what Larry Kitchens provides to his clients. He’s a virtual encyclopedia of remodeling information! In fact, we think he should write a book!
Larry has been on the board of directors for several industry-related companies in
Mississippi. His knowledge is repeatedly called upon because quite frankly, he understands the kitchen remodeling process from the ground, up. His knowledge of the different wood species is astounding.
Playing tennis and gardening are just some of the ways
in which Larry enjoys spending his free time hours.

Design Associate Cathy Kitchens brings to
Kitchens Unique her many artistic talents as
well as a background in Business Administration
and a degree in Marketing. Married to Mark
Kitchens for 23 years, she is well acquainted
with the family business in a personal way. We
are excited about her joining the company and
bringing in fresh new ideas for our clients. |

What
are CKDs
and CBDs
Certified
Kitchen Designers (CKDs) and Certified Bathroom
Designers (CBDs) specialize in the design, planning and
execution of kitchens, bathrooms and other built-in
units throughout the home. Only a select group of expert
designers attain the CKD and/or CBD designation(s).
CKDs
and CBDs, while an integral part of the interior design
profession, are also distinctly different because of
their specialization of practice. Similar to general
interior design practitioners, CKDs and CBDs must meet
common core educational requirements, adhere to various
legal restrictions and regulations in practice, and
follow a professional code of ethics. However, beyond
these basic core commonalties, distinct differences
exist because of the nature of the space to be designed
and close relationship with the client.
The
planning of kitchen and bathroom spaces requires unique
design skills and knowledge because of the highly
technical nature of the equipment incorporated into
them, and the personal way that these environments
affect the user. The CKD and/or CBD is competent beyond
the minimum interior design qualifications of federal
and state (provincial) legal codes and requirements.
CKDs/CBDs prove advanced knowledge of technical and
personal communication skills required to succeed as a
design specialist in residential kitchen, bathroom and
other built-in environments.
